Doctor Tia Michaud has been in private practice since September 2010.
She is a graduate of The University of Texas at Houston's General Psychiatry Residency (7/2010), where she was delighted to escape the Chicago winters for a balmy year. But she did most of her training at the University of Illinois at Chicago (for medical school and the first part of residency) and prior to that got her Bachelor's Degree at The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with Departmental Distinction.
She has been Board Certified in Psychiatry since April 2013. Given the unsuccessful attempts to relocate to St. Thomas (2 catergory 5 hurricanes) and Florida (Covid), she has established herself as a staunch Chicagolander, and this is "home."
She feels that Psychiatry is a "calling" more than a career.
She has a varied background, which is helpful in understanding patients at times from real life experiences, as well as from studies and training.
Doctor Tia cares about each and every one of her patients, but also enjoys time with her family. She has four children. (Yes, FOUR. This was not part of the original plan!) Her oldest daughter practices as a veterinarian in London. As of this writing, she has a college student at UIUC in bioengineering. Dr. Tia has two "babies" that are 6 and 8, with bright red hair. Her little ones have some developmental and speech issues, which has helped her learn more about the world of a special-needs parent.
A fervent believer in "pet therapy," Dr Tia currently has a small pack of 3 cherished felines: Alice, Georges (aka "Fluffy") and Storm, and 2 dogs: Carmel and Sunny. Sometimes Sunny can be found in the office living her best life as an emotional support/therapy dog.
As a company, we donate yearly to the GCFA (Greater Chicago Ferret Association) to help with their valiant and understaffed efforts to take care of forgotten and discarded ferrets from all over the area: www.gcfa.com
Most importantly, Dr. Tia sees that each person's own strengths and weaknesses as well as past stories and current struggles, make each individual special and unique in their own way. We are all human, doctors no less than "patients", and healing is a collaborative process where your own thoughts and understanding of your body and emotions are paired with Dr. Tia's training and medical knowledge.
More than anything else, Dr. Tia's philosophy is that the most important part of being a good doctor is simply listening. And that in truly caring and spending time with people, miracles can and do happen.
Stay safe and well in today's changing world.
